This is where we like to call home: Salt Lake City, Utah! After sharing our recent plans on Dream Home Makeover, we wanted to share our top recommendations on where to eat, shop, visit or stay in this beautiful city. Nestled along the Wasatch Mountain Range, our Studio McGee headquarters takes full advantage of its stunning location. So we like to invite others to our favorite places, from hidden gems to well-known landmarks, from new restaurants to nostalgic donut shops. It’s all here in SLC!
No. 1. Stay –
As the largest hotel in Salt Lake City, the Grand America offers something for everyone in a classic hotel setting. For those looking to get out and explore the city, the Grand America is perfectly located in the heart of downtown. If rest and relaxation is your goal, spend a day at their luxury spa, unwind in one of the pools, or enjoy visiting their signature boutiques. And be sure to grab a bite to eat at Laurel, even if it’s just to enjoy the design details.
Located outside of Salt Lake, but well worth the trip, The Lodge at Blue Sky is the epitome of a luxury mountain stay. In the quiet foothills of Park City, this five-star hotel offers everything high-end suites focused on comfort, horseback riding and fly fishing adventures.
No. 2. Eat –
Nona is the new sister restaurant of Pizza Nono in the 9e and 9e piece. Designed as a (mostly) al fresco dining experience, the outdoor setting is utterly lovely. And with a menu of simple, rustic, wood-fired dishes, it’s nearly impossible to choose just one favourite.
As an evolution of their Park City restaurant named Handle, HSL is an American urban restaurant that is beautifully stocked with local ingredients and thoughtful cocktails. The presentation and flavor combinations keep this restaurant at the top of our list.
Finely crafted and aesthetically simple, Tulie’s Bakery is about everything we love! Fresh, seasonal ingredients create a dynamic menu, so There is always something delicious to look forward to.
What was originally a bakery built on the decadence of French pastry, Beaumont has since grown to include a menu of fresh seasonal salads, sandwiches and the most appetizing brunch menu. The interior of the bakery is like a cool bow on a very tasty wrapper
A must in Salt Lake! Go for the donuts, stay for the donuts and muffins. It’s the perfect mix of classic donuts, great hospitality and a nostalgic atmosphere that sets this bakery apart.
No. 3. Visit –
With quick access from the city, Millcreek Canyon offers an abundance of recreational activities year-round. With two restaurants and hiking and biking trails, there’s something for every casual or seasoned adventurer.
Conduct at the top Big Cottonwood Canyon will bring you to the Donut Falls trailhead, which is one of the McGees favorite places for hiking with the family. The 3.3 mile round trip trail is a fairly easy one road with a rewarding view of the waterfall at the end!
This short but steep 2.5 miles The hike is above the Salt Lake Museum of Natural History, and well worth the hike. The panoramic view – with a stone seating arrangement that gives this trail its name “living room” – is a great reward.
It’s no secret that we love flowers, so Red Butte Garden is one of our floral favorites, especially in the SPrings when 500,000 flowers come to life. The Botanical Garden hosts concerts, private events, hiking trails, and a must-see rose garden.
No. 4. Shop –
As jovial as its name, this store really has it all. With its collection of baby gifts, candies, clothes and accessories…you could spend hours browsing each latest item from this shop. The best part? You can have a drink or choose a floral arrangement while you cruise.
This playful and eclectic boutique started as a bookstore 37 years ago and now houses a wonderfully curated selection of children’s clothing, accessories, toys, gifts and women’s pieces. And the books! You will happily spend hours of a leisurely afternoon perusing their collection.
Owner Kyong has curated a gorgeous boutique in Koo de Ker with a selection of pieces that speak to her well-traveled and detailed aesthetic. This boutique offers both high-end and affordable prices in feminine styles that are on trend season after season.
For the best mall shopping experience in Salt Lake City, City Creek Center is the place to be. Retractable glass roof and unique interior landscaping make for an elevated shopping experience at any time of the year.
