Santorini is probably on every travel enthusiast’s bucket list. With breathtaking views and beautiful landscapes, the island is sure to provide you with an enjoyable vacation. A perfect place for a romantic getaway, it is equipped with fascinating resorts and restaurants. If you are planning a trip to Santorini, be sure to go through our list of essential things you need to know about this island.

Location

Santorini is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, 200 kilometers southeast of Athens, 150 kilometers south of Mykonos and 140 kilometers north of Crete. It belongs to the Cyclades, a group of islands southeast of Greece. The caldera produced by a volcanic explosion years ago resulted in the most incredible sea views. Moreover, the simple but beautiful Cycladic architecture and classic blue-domed structures add to the elegance of the place.

How to reach Santorini

Several flights are available to get to Santorini. However, no direct flights from India can be taken. Santorini International Airport offers direct flights to the capital (Athens) as well as several other European cities (Paris, Madrid, London, Frankfurt and Brussels). Most of the flights from India have stopovers in several places, so you can check the official sites for a suitable schedule and choose what suits you best. In addition to taking a flight, one can take advantage of the daily ferry services from Athens to reach the island.

People prefer to visit the island in the summer, especially the so-called shoulder season. This includes the months of May-June and September-October. July and August are the peak months, and the place is usually crowded during this time.
